July 2010
The past two days have been so surreal and great for many reasons. On Monday I went to my first show at the Largo in Hollywood and saw The Benson Interruption (which will become a show in the Fall for Comedy Central, where comedy is sometimes central!). The show was great and featured Greg Proops (who’ve Ive seen live twice before at the UCB!),

Natasha Leggero (who was good but the crowd didnt get some of her humor),

Matt Braunger (first time I’ve seen his stand up and it was all great!),

Dax Shepard (Whom I’ve never noticed looks like Zach Braff and gets it alot when hes out and about.),

Rob Huebel (Whom I seen for the first time live and was great and even stayed after the show and was nice enough to give me some advice about being a comedian by telling me to kill myself. He was joking of course…hopefully. Anyway he did give me some good advice and told me the truth that I kind of knew beforehand, that it will suck in the beginning but if it something I love that I should pursue it anyway.)

Graham Elwood (Second time seeing him live and first time seeing him do stand up. Well it was more commentary on the actual show and his thoughts on how it went but it was all very funny!)

and of course Doug Benson was the star of the show who sat on the very comfortable chair during the whole show and “interrupts” the comics at any moment he wants. It was a very funny and enjoyable show and was worth the $20 for almost two hours of stand-up and the opportunity to meet Doug after the show and he even gave everyone who showed up the opportunity to get free tickets to his Benson Interruption when it starts filming for Comedy Central! The only downer of the evening was that my friend Markis and I went to eat at a family dinner down the street of the Largo before the show and where totally racially profiled by all the fucken elderly folks in the place. The waiter was also Latino and immediately spoke to us in Spanish! No big deal but it did bother me after I ordered my food in English and he continued to talk to us in Spanish like we appreciate it more. WE KNOW YOU SPEAK ENGLISH! YOU WERE TALKING TO THE REST OF THE PEOPLE IN ENGLISH! Anyway the food was good but not worth the price and to top it all off i got ripped off and didn’t get my change. The restaurant didn’t take my money but my so called friend did after he didn’t give me my change after he paid even after I asked him for it afterward and instead chose to continually change the subject. What a fucken dick he could be especially after saying he was keeping it for gas money when he has a fucken job and on top of that he complained of the waiter more than I did and still fucken gave him a tip! A FUCKEN TIP! He always goes around throwing money away and he has the nerve to take from his friends. I’ve known this guy for a long time but fuck after that I really believe he has changed for the worse. Whatever I guess thats how the world works, I mean I told him about not going to Florida and think of his future now and didn’t listen and now he is upset about where his road is taking him. Anyway enough about this guy. The next day I woke up at noon like I usually do because of the summer ruining my sleeping patterns and decided to go to see Doug Loves Movies and hopefully CDR alone since everyone I invite flakes out on me or takes long to respond or whatever. I end up showing up an hour before showtime and already there is a big line. I thought to myself that the odds of me getting to see CDR were slim to none but still had hope in the back of my mind. I always seem to see a comic walking down the street while in line and wonder why no one ever goes ape shit for seeing them out and about. The comic I saw outside before the show started was Matt Besser of UCB.

He was performing tonight and I’ve noticed that he always tries to get the crowd involved and he did that exactly that when he was trying out new characters with the help of two audience members (one looked like a young chubby Seth Rogen and the other was a red sox fan racist who shocked Besser with his anti-semetic remarks). So yeah, SPOILER ALERT. I did make it in to see CDR after Doug Loves Movies but I’ll write about that in a bit. As I entered the UCB I chose a seat at the very end to give others better seats and while I waited for the others to get seated I noticed a regular to CDR mention something to his friend about always seeing me at the show which I replied by yelling across the room and saying, “FUCK YEAH YOUR RIGHT!” Then after I offered a guy who sat on the floor my seat so he could sit next to his girlfriend but he refuses because hes too cool to accept my seat but his girlfriend thought it was sweet. So the guests that night really surprised me as I was just watching their podcast the day before. The guests were Joe Rogan, Sam Tripoli, and Brian Reichle and I was really surprised because I had just seen their podcast on ustream the day before. After the show I waited to see if my name would be called to see CDR and after the line grew increasingly short I thought I wasn’t going in but then my name was called (incorrectly by the way, she said July wrong she pronounced it Julie, WTF!) and I was also the last one in and everyone else was sent away. It was a great feeling especially since I didn’t get to see Sarah Silverman the last time she was at the UCB so I happily went in paid for my ticket and bought a water because I was parched. I walked down the infamous wall of comedian portraits and greeted Doug Benson as he walked past me and he remembered my name (amazing for a stoner like him!). I walk up to the stage thinking I was going to sit on the stage but it was full so I stood next to another guy who also didn’t have a seat and thought I had to stand for the rest of the show. Luckily, there were two free seats right next to the hallway that leads to the Green Room where the comedians wait before they perform. The dude standing next to me happily gave me a “Fuck yeah!” for getting seats. The MC that night was refreshingly great and ended his set with a discussion of his writing of a new Nascar Romance Novel (which are real),
the next performer was a comic by the name of Howard Kremer or Dragon Boy Suede as he goes by also and was really good and a crowd favorite with his talks of seizing the summer.

Harris Wittels was up next and did really good with his awkward pauses and staring contests with the audience.

I was surprised after the MC announced the next performer as a very funny guy that we all know and then yelled out Sarah Silverman. Sarah looked like she had a cold and was a bit nervous with her talks about being nothing but a dot in her fathers testicles once and did fairly well.

It was so cool and weird to see her friends and fellow comedians watch her set right next to me in the hallway to the Green Room backstage. After her was the comic nerd himself Brian Posehn who spoke how he barely wrote any new material and we get the “shit” that he forced out a few minutes before he got on stage. He also spoke how he broke his own glasses fighting another nerd when he was younger and how he is planning for the zombie apocalypse. He was very funny and stood on for quite a while which was great!

The final performer who openly joked that everyone had to stay and wait to see was the very funny and witty Marc Maron who talked about how he loves to drive and text and almost killed two Mexicans while doing this because he lives in Highland Park. He also talked about almost being a victim of a plane jacking (or so he thought) and was too scared to tell anyone about the mysterious Persian man who gave him the “Persian face”. He also hilariously heckled an “aspiring” Jewish stand-up comedian who moved from Long Island and went to the same college as him. He joked on the irony of the kid getting everything he wanted as a child including a car and how it would be great to talk about in his sets.

It was altogether a great show and glad I went and Sarah’s laugh when she was watching Bryan Posehn perform was so great! This is probably a lot to read but I think its worth it because how rarely I write anything on Tumblr besides post videos.
